What Our Staff Has to Say about Working at Equinox

Consultant

My background is in molecular biology—I did post-doctoral research on gene expression at Harvard University. I left academe to join a nascent biotech company. After nearly a decade of directing bench research in biotech, I moved over to business development, working in that role for both biotech and pharmaceutical companies.

The Equinox Group attracted me because it offers a small company feel, but a variety of work to keep things interesting. The company has a highly collegial work environment—the only time I have experienced an environment this conducive to achievement was when I worked in a 20-person biotech firm.

Being a consultant for Equinox offers a wide range of assignments. Solving different problems for many different pharmaceutical companies (and a few biotechs) continues to provide new challenges and offers a terrific learning experience for me, even after 25 years in this field.

Analyst

Soon after graduating from Harvard College, I joined the Equinox Group as a Research Associate. I was surprised to find that, even in my entry-level position, I was encouraged to voice my opinions, interact directly with our Consultants and Vice Presidents, and suggest solutions to our clients’ problems. Thanks to the open and supportive work environment, I was able to tackle some daunting professional challenges without feeling overwhelmed.

Through the cases I worked on, I learned new analytical techniques and took on more responsibilities, and eventually was promoted to Analyst. In this position, I’ve enjoyed new opportunities to take ownership of projects and provide input into the development of the company’s capabilities and product offerings. With each different project come opportunities to learn new skills and grow professionally, and Equinox provides the people and resources to foster that growth.

Consultant

I started working at Equinox Group as a Research Associate after graduating from Yale University. Over the next several years, the company provided many growth opportunities, and I was promoted to Analyst and then to Consultant. Equinox strikes the perfect balance between being a relatively flat organization, where everyone’s contributions are valued, and having a career development path that promotes goal setting and achievement.

After four years at Equinox Group, I left to attend The Wharton School. Comparing my experiences at Equinox with those of my business school classmates at other companies, I learned more about how unique the company’s culture is. Few places offer a supportive environment where hard work, efficiency, and life balance are equally valued, and where the work is fun.

When I graduated with an MBA in health care management, I decided to try a different career path, but soon realized I would not find a better job than the one I had had at Equinox Group. I returned to my position as a Consultant at Equinox, where I continue to gain responsibility and grow professionally. The perpetual improvement and evolution of Equinox products ensures that new challenges are always available.

Research Associate

I first joined Equinox Group as a summer intern after my junior year of college. Upon graduating from Harvard College with a combined degree in chemistry and physics, I rejoined the company full time as a Research Associate. The work combines my interests in business and medicine, giving me insight about the economics of the pharmaceutical industry.

The friendly atmosphere, intellectually stimulating work, and the willingness of my coworkers to help me learn new skills all factored into my decision to work at Equinox. Even as an intern, I was given many responsibilities and opportunities to learn and contribute. I am happy to be working in such an encouraging and cooperative environment.

Consultant

Imagine a consulting job where you get all of the benefits, and none of the headaches…that is how I would describe working at Equinox. You get to work on many different types of projects across many different subject areas with many different clients. Having worked for several major pharmaceutical companies, I can attest that at Equinox, you rarely have to board a plane on Sunday afternoon knowing you won’t get back home until Friday night. You get exposure to the pharmaceutical industry at all levels of the company, but don’t have to deal with any of the politics. You get to be really entrepreneurial, but with little of the risk. Being a consultant is ultimately what you make of it, and at Equinox Group, you won’t be held back.

Analyst

I started working at Equinox Group after completing my master’s degree in Engineering Management from Dartmouth College. Armed with an undergraduate degree in chemical engineering, I had previously worked in market research and analytics, but in a different industry. My interest in the pharmaceutical sector and the business of health care, coupled with a desire to make the best of my skill set, propelled me towards Equinox. After one summer interning at Equinox, I was absolutely certain I wanted to come back.

When I joined Equinox as an Analyst, I began working on important cases right away and, consequently, have learned a lot about various therapeutic areas and modeling techniques. The atmosphere is collaborative and knowledge-sharing is always encouraged. Although the learning curve is steep, with time and the help of others, I grew more comfortable with the work and took on more responsibility. I was given the opportunity to try my hand at newer analytical and programming techniques, together with qualitative interviewing, ensuring continual growth.

With a background working in large organizations, I find the friendly, approachable attitude at Equinox positively refreshing. Smart and helpful colleagues, challenging casework, and an environment that encourages innovation, accompanied by an emphasis on work-life balance, make Equinox a wonderful place to work.

Consultant

I joined Equinox Group as a Consultant in 2004 after having spent eight years in life sciences consulting and product marketing at other firms. Equinox’s biggest appeal for me was the ability to work across multiple therapeutic areas and with companies on the cutting edge of drug discovery and development.

As an undergraduate at Trinity College, I majored in economics and minored in models and data. The quantitative skills I learned there, combined with the business acumen that I continued to refine during my MBA study at Cornell University, prepared me well for the challenges of Equinox. Consultants lead projects, a process that includes managing the client, guiding more junior analysts and associates, and doing a good part of the analytical heavy lifting. It’s challenging and rewarding to guide a project from start to finish and know that your own efforts play a major role in the success of an engagement.

Equinox’s biggest asset is its people — smart, energetic, and down-to-earth. Work-life balance is something that is stressed here. We all work hard, but also enjoy reasonable work hours.

Analyst

After receiving my B.A. in quantitative economics from Tufts University, I joined Equinox Group as a Research Associate. I was quickly immersed in interesting casework and was given the opportunity to work on one of Equinox Group’s newest modeling methods. Over the course of the next few years, I gained exposure to a wide range of therapeutic areas and research techniques, and was promoted to Analyst.

A great aspect of working at Equinox Group is the supportive environment in the office. I know that whenever I have a question about an aspect of a project, I can approach anyone in the company to help me work through the problem. This collegial atmosphere enables staff members to continually take on greater challenges and confidently solve them.
